There's nothing quite like a hand written note, am I right? A lovely card. A few meaningful thoughts put on paper with one's own hand. And signed with respect and love. Whether the author is your adorable 7 year old niece, your Mom, or a colleague, when you receive a note that took someone more than 10 seconds to tap out on a keyboard, that note means something to you. Because it obviously meant something to the sender.
We've lost so much common courtesy and etiquette in this technological age. And don't get me wrong - I am not a formal person! In fact, I most likely err on the wrong side of casual more often than not. Thank you cards don't have to be formal. Even a quick, casual note tells someone you cared enough to slow down for just a moment to think about what you wanted to write, get the paper, the pen (please, no pencils if you're over 10!), and the .... STAMP! and then get that thing into the mailbox! That's a lot of steps! Let's see. Let's compare that to sit your butt at the computer (oh wait, you were already there), tap out a quick note, hit send. Yep. Electronic wins for time. But. Let me ask you this: do you remember the last thank you email you received? Have you EVER received a thank you via email? Do you remember the last thank you card you received in the mail?
I know I absolutely remember written notes. Moreover, I usually save them for a bit. Put them up on my desk. Hang them on the side of the refrigerator. "Someone appreciates me," is the message and I want to hang onto that for a little while.
Appreciate someone. Then, let that person know. Select a card, write a quick note and make someone's day.
